Borussia Dortmund have completed and officially confirmed the signing of Jude Bellingham from Birmingham City.
The 17-year-old central midfielder is a product of Birmingham’s academy, and this season he has made a total of 43 appearances in all competitions, scoring four times and assisting three for the English Championship side. He was reportedly offered a new contract to stay put and continue his development there, but he obviously feels the time to be ripe for him to move on.
Manchester United were credited with strong interest in securing his signature and it was even reported that the youngster had visited their facilities to get a better view of his potential destination and had met with Sir Alex Ferguson, but news broke earlier this month that Dortmund’s reputation for developing young players had convinced him to move to Germany instead.
As quoted by the BBC, Belingham expressed gratitude towards Birmingham City, as well as excitement at the prospect of joining ‘one of Europe’s biggest clubs’.
