Confirmed: Valencia and Barcelona agree Cillessen deal

Barcelona have confirmed that they’ve struck a deal which will see Jasper Cillessen move to Valencia.

The Catalan club took the opportunity to express their gratitude for the Dutch international, who never managed to establish himself as the first choice option between the sticks. With Marc-Andre ter Stegen continuously improving, his chances of that were probably at their lowest ever.

However, the 30-year-old shot-stopper has five trophies to his name – two La Liga titles, two Copa Del Rey trophies, and one Spanish Super Cup, despite featuring only 32 times in the starting XI in the three years he spent at the Camp Nou. Most of those came in the Copa Del Rey, which is the only competition where he was a regular starter.

Cillessen had two more years remaining on his contract, but he had expressed his wish to leave in search of regular game-time, and Barcelona saw no reason to deny him, and they are set to receive €35 million for his services.
