Connor pledges to fight all the way

Wolves manager Terry Connor has reassured fans that his team will fight to the end to avoid relegation.

Without a win in four games, the pressure is already mounting on the man who replaced Mick McCarthy after a humiliating 5-1 home defeat to local rivals West Brom.

Speculation suggests the former England Under 21 international’s job may already be under threat.

Connor, however, is keen to stress is that his team will not lack spirit as they prepare for the visit of Manchester United on Sunday.

He told the club’s official website: “The one thing Mick McCarthy and myself have tried to do is bring up this group of players to represent what we do and the people we are.”

“That was borne out with Mick and hopefully that will carry on with myself. We’re different people but the message is always going to be the same.”

“We tweak things and we’re different, but underpinning that, we both want honest teams who give their best every time they’re asked to pull the shirt on.”

“You can’t always play well, you can’t always win all the games, but we can give our best.”

Despite sitting 19th in the league, the Yorkshireman believes the West Midlands side cannot feel sorry for themselves.

“Being positive is the only way. I’m a ‘glass half-full’ man and when I’m with the players there’s no way you can be down and solemn,” he said.

“If they follow their manager, that’s how I want them to come in. In training and in the debrief we did earlier in the week that’s exactly how they’ve been.”

“As Kevin Doyle alluded to when he spoke after the game, they must live right and do everything spot on for those 10 games.”

“That’s what I said to them in the dressing room after Saturday’s game, so if that’s resonated with them, that’s part of the job.”
