Conte aims to rejuvenate Juve

New Juventus coach Antonio Conte has vowed to restore the struggling giants to their former glory after being officially unveiled as coach.

The 41-year-old club legend – who made over 300 appearances for Juve between 1992 and 2004 – has signed a two-year deal with the Turin outfit after most recently guiding Siena to second place in Serie B, assuring them promotion to the top flight.

Conte is in no doubt about the size of the task awaiting him at his former home, with Juventus finishing seventh in Serie A last season and failing to qualify for Europe, but he is confident he can turn things around with the backing of the board.

“If there were no important bases and reassurances I would not have considered my project and I would not have chosen Juventus despite my great affection which ties me here,” Conte said.

“I have great motivation and feel the trust. We all know where Juve belongs in Italian football, in Europe and around the world.”

“We will need a little bit of everything to relaunch this Juventus. A winning mentality, determination, work culture, sacrifice and the will to play.”

Juventus have already secured the services of midfielder Andrea Pirlo from AC Milan and Swiss winger Reto Ziegler from Sampdoria, but Conte insisted there was still room at the club for veterans such as goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon and striker Alessandro Del Piero.

“For me Buffon and Del Piero represent Juventus. They are an added value and they know what it means to win at Juve and what it takes,” he said.

“For the transfer market we will evaluate where we can improve the team with an excellent starting potential.”

“We have spoken with the director (Giuseppe Marotta) and we will be working to identify the objectives.”
