Copa Libertadores wrap: Penarol, Colo Colo win away

South American giants Penarol and Colo Colo both recorded away wins in Tuesday’s Copa Libertadores action.

With their league campaign still not underway, Colo Colo faced Deportivo Tachira who are seven games into the Venezuelan Primera Division.

But Colo Colo overcame their lack of match practice and showed the star quality with an entertaining 4-2 victory.

After a 5-2 loss in the first match of the group stage to Paraguayan team Cerro Porteno, Colo Colo needed to make a good start and did when Ezequiel Miralles opened the scoring after 20 minutes.

Miralles was in good touch and netted his second on the stroke of half-time before Esteban Paredes made sure of the victory with his goal after 71 minutes.

Substitute Lucas Wilchez looked to have wrapped up the rout with his goal seven minutes from time but two late consolation strikes to Julio Gutierrez saw Deportivo Tachira end the game with some respectability.

The other match on Tuesday saw Uruguayan club side Penarol grab a 3-1 away win in Argentina against Godoy Cruz.

Juan Manuel Olivera put Penarol in front inside the first minute and although Ruben Ramirez netted on the half-hour mark, Olivera got his second just before half-time to restore the lead.

Luis Aguiar sealed the result with his 67th minute goal that saw them go level on three points with Godoy Cruz and Argentinian side Independiente in Group eight.
