Argentinean outfit Velez Sarsfield romped to a 3-0 win in their Copa Libertadores quarter-final match with Paraguay’s Libertad on Thursday.

Maximiliano Moralez opened the scoring for the hosts after 21 minutes, but they had to wait until the 76th minute to double their lead when Juan Martinez converted from the penalty spot.

Martinez scored a second five minutes later to hand the Argentines a handy buffer heading into the second leg in Paraguay next week.

Elsewhere on Thursday, another Paraguayan outfit – Cerro Porteno – played out a 1-1 draw with Mexican club Jaguares in their quarter-final first-leg clash at Mexico’s Estadio Zoque VMR.

Jonathan Fabbro fired the visitors ahead in the 73rd minute, but England-born striker Antonio Pedroza was on hand in stoppage time to fire home what could be a crucial leveller ahead of the second leg next week.
