AC Milan eased into the Coppa Italia quarter-finals with a 3-0 victory over Bari at the San Siro on Thursday.
Goals to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Alexander Merkel and Robinho were enough to get Massimiliano Allegri’s side into the final eight of the Italian cup competition.
It was Merkel’s first senior goal for the club with the German teenager enjoying limited game time under Allegri.
But he made the most of his rare place in the starting line-up on Thursday with a shot past Bari goalkeeper Daniele Padelli on the stroke of half time at the San Siro.
Merkel’s goal doubled Milan’s lead after Swede Ibrahimovic had earlier opened the scoring on 19 minutes, and Brazilian striker Robinho finished the rout with a third in the 65th minute.
Milan will now play Sampdoria in the last eight after they beat Udinese on penalties in their round of 16 match on Wednesday.
