A brace from Samuel Eto’o sent Inter Milan through to the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia on Wednesday, while Palermo also progressed.
New coach Leonardo maintained his perfect record since taking over from Rafael Benitez as Eto’o’s first-half double led Inter to a 3-2 win over Genoa.
Eto’o’s goals had Inter up 2-0 at the break, but a penalty to Houssine Kharja nine minutes after the restart kept Genoa in the match.
Kenya midfielder McDonald Mariga netted for Inter just five minutes later, but Genoa did manage to pull one back in injury time through Giuseppe Sculli.
In Sicily, Palermo moved into the last eight of the competition thanks to a 1-0 win over Chievo Verona.
Fabrizio Miccoli’s 79th minute penalty was all that separated the two sides and set up a quarter-final clash with Parma.
The Coppa Italia round of 16 continues over the next week with Roma, Juventus and AC Milan all in action.
