Brazilian newspaper Lance! has learned that Barcelona are considering a move for Corinthians defender Gilberto Carlos Nascimento Silva.
The Catalans have been alerted of the player’s potential as they continue the search for a new centre-back.
According to Lance!, the La Liga side are even prepared to offer around €15 million for the 26-year-old footballer.
Gil has already enjoyed one spell in Europe, having spent a year and a half at French side Valencieness, but then opted to return to Brazil and signed for Corinthians in January 2013.
The stopper has since made 36 league appearances for the Brazilian giants, but has failed to get on the scoresheet.
Barcelona appear to be looking at a number of high-profile centre-backs at the moment, with Eder Balanta, David Luiz, Nicolas Otamendi and Eliaquim Mangala believed to be on their hit-list.
Despite losing to Athletic Bilbao in their last league match, the Catalans remain 4/6 favourites for the league trophy.
