(GSM) – Corinthians moved within striking distance of a Round of 16 berth on Thursday as they got goals from Ronaldo and Chicão in a 2-1 Copa Libertadores win over Cerro Porteño, who were eliminated.
Veteran striker Ronaldo opened the scoring for the home side in the 37th minute with his second goal of the group stage.
The boys from São Paulo held that lead until the 64th minute when defender Chicão snuck in to tuck a shot beyond Diego Barretto in the Cerro Porteño goal.
The Paraguayans pulled a goal back through Julio Dos Santos 10 minutes from time, but it not enough to spare them from elimination with two games to play.
Corinthians are assured of a top-two finish in Group 1, but only the top six group runners-up are guaranteed Round of 16 berths.
