Diego Costa has completed his medical ahead of a £32m transfer from Atletico Madrid to Chelsea, according to the Guardian.
The Spain international, who is currently preparing for this summer’s World Cup finals in Brazil, scored thirty-six goals in all competitions during the 2013/14 campaign, helping his side clinch the La Liga title, and to the Champions League final where they were beaten in extra-time by city rivals Real Madrid.
Only Cristiano Ronaldo scored more goals than Costa in the Spanish top flight, and just Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic bettered his tally of eight in Europe’s top competition.
Blues boss Jose Mourinho has made no secret of his desire to sign a new striker, with Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba managing just nineteen league goals between them last term.
Costa has just one cap for Spain, having begun his international career with Brazil – the country of his birth.
He made two substitute appearances for Brazil last year, though both came in friendlies allowing him to switch his allegiances.
