Costa Rica are through to the quarter-finals of the CONCACAF Under-20 Championship after a 3-0 win over Guadeloupe in Guatemala City.
A Joel Campbell brace helped the defending champions progress, but the striker had to be at his best to beat in-form Guadeloupe goalkeeper Kevin Anselme.
Anselme frustrated the Costa Ricans throughout the first half with a number of fine saves, and it took an exceptional strike from Campbell to finally break the deadlock after 57 minutes.
The 18-year-old calmly converted the second from the penalty spot.
Deyver Vega then confirmed Costa Rica’s quarter-final place with a well-worked goal, exchanging passes with Joshua Diaz Azofeifa before firing home.
Costa Rica now face Canada in the Group C finale on Friday, needing only a draw to seal a seeded place in the knockout stage.
In Group D, Cuba played out a goalless draw with Trinidad and Tobago to ensure Mexico a quarter-final place.
