The Daily Mail is reporting that Chelsea defender Ashley Cole could be set to quit the club after a row about his new contract.
The England defender is willing to leave at the end of the current season as he is not happy with only a one-year extension to his current deal.
It is the policy of the Stamford Bridge club to only offer one-year at a time for players over 30 and Cole isn’t happy that they aren’t making an exception for him.
Frank Lampard is in a similar situation, so it could be all change for Chelsea next summer as two of their most experienced players potentially move on.
Keeping the focus on Cole for now, there are bound to be several clubs interested in signing him and matching his contract demands.
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is one man that would be tempted to make a move and with Manchester City’s wealth, they can never be ruled out.
Some reports are even suggesting that Manchester United would be happy to offer Cole the contract he desires.
Then, as with any high-profile player at the moment, Paris St Germain and their millions are being linked with the former Arsenal full-back.
PSG boss Carlo Ancelotti managed Cole at Chelsea of course, so there could be more in this one.
For now, Cole is a Chelsea player and will give his all, but it appears he is not afraid to move on if the club fails to provide the contact he believes he deserves.
A fascinating few months lie ahead.
