He is one of the most highly rated youngsters in world football and according to reports he could be heading to the Premier League next summer.
Romelu Lukaku is believed to be on the wishlist of every top European club and he’s just 17.
City
As with most talented players he is being linked with Manchester City. His agent however has denied any move is imminent.
Christophe Henrotay told Belgian magazine Sport: “There is no concrete offer or agreement,”
“I have very good contacts with Manchester City, but they are only one of the clubs to ask about him.”
Others
The youngster himself has revealed that other Premier League teams have previously tried to sign him. He revealed: “Chelsea and Arsenal tried to sign me when I was 13, 14,”
“Chelsea is my favourite team. I have always said it and I have never hidden it. But it is not because Chelsea is my favourite team that I have to go there. There is also Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City. These big five are very interesting. Tottenham are also a good club”
Incredible
Lukaku is an incredible young player. He has been playing regular first team football at Anderlecht since he was just 16 years-old. This season he has already scored 13 goals and is likely add to that in the coming months. Anderlecht already know that they have a fight on their hands to keep hold of the youngster.
Lukaku’s rise to prominence has seen him compared with one of his heroes Didier Drogba. He shares some of the same attributes of Drogba such as pace and power. One of the key differences between the two is that Drogba came into professional football at a relatively late stage and Lukaku has become a star at such a tender age.
Mature
At 17 he has already won international caps for Belgium. In the limited interview’s he has given he has came across as a very mature individual and this quality will hold him in good stead for the rest of his career.
He is still studying for a diploma in Tourism and Public Relations, despite being one of the most wanted players in world football. And he wants to prove to people that there is more to him than just his ability with a football.
His father has been a big influence on him and with the help of his personal assistant Peter Smeets has kept his feet on the ground. It must be a difficult job with the attention surrounding the youngster. There is a risk of the speculation effecting Lukaku but hopefully he will stay humble and level-headed.
Fortune
Whoever does secure the signing of Lukaku will have to pay a major transfer fee to sign him. If reports are to be believed he is rated by Anderlecht in the £25million bracket. Only the elite of European football could afford that fee. Anderlecht will be sorry to see him go but will know that the £25million fee is too good to resist.
Bright
Wherever he ends up in the summer I’m sure Lukaku will have a bright career in football. He has all the attributes to succeed in a major European league. His style is probably best suited to the Premier League and I’m sure he would become a major star in England’s top flight.
