Watford striker Danny Graham has been attracting lots of attention this season due to his goals and general performances for the Hornets.
Interest from Premier League clubs has increased in the last few weeks and rumours are rife that he could soon be on the move.
Goals
This season has been his best ever goalscoring season in the English second flight.
He has scored an impressive 27 goals in 49 games in all competitions, 24 coming in the Championship. Graham had been a prolific scorer in League One but there were question marks over whether he could cut it in the Championship.
However last season the former-Middlesbrough trainee proved he could score goals in the Championship by firing home 14 league goals. This was a decent return for a player trying to adjust to a new club and league.
Bargain
Danny Graham joined Watford on a free transfer from Carlisle, only for a tribunal to rule that the club should pay £200,000 rising to a possible £500,000. Even at £500,000 though the striker has proved a bargain.
The Hornets are likely to make a major profit if they sell the striker to a Premier League club this summer. With the club not in the best of financial health the sale of the striker would help improve their finances.
Wanted
Premier League clubs looking for a goalscorer are now making moves to bring in the 25 year-old striker. Newly-promoted QPR have apparently already had a bid rejected for the striker.
Now if reports are to be believed Premier League West Brom have also had a £2.5million bid rejected but are not giving up on signing the striker just yet.
Hanging On
Watford enjoyed a decent campaign last season and Hornets boss Malky Mackay is hoping to persuade the striker to stay at Vicarage Road. Graham has become a key member of the Hornet’s squad. His goals would be really hard to replace.
However if the striker was offered the chance to play Premier League football next season I’m sure he would find it hard to turn down.
Failure
Danny Graham started his professional career at North East club Middlesbrough, when the club where in the Premier League. He never quite made the first team breakthrough at Boro, so never really had a chance to impress in the English top flight. He made just 15 Premier League appearances in four years at Boro.
And after years of playing lower league football I’m sure that Danny Graham would like the chance to prove himself at the highest level. This summer could be the opportunity he has been waiting for his whole career.
Standard
The big question is could Danny Graham score goals in the Premier League? We will only get that answer if Graham secures a transfer to a Premier League club this summer.
If he doesn’t move to the Premier League this summer then I have no doubt that he will continue to score goals in the Championship. If his goalscoring form does continue in the Championship then surely will get his shot in the Premier League.
