Burnley striker Danny Ings has hit form and could be a key player in the Clarets bid for Premier League survival this season

Burnley claimed a vital 2-1 victory over fellow strugglers QPR at Turf Moor yesterday. The player who scored the winner was England under-21 international striker Danny Ings.

The striker was massively impressive in the Championship last season and has now hit form in the Premier League.

He 22-year-old has now scored twice and collected an assist in the last three league games, as the Clarets have picked-up five points.

Vital

Ings is a vital player for the Clarets. Any team fighting against relegation needs a player who will score goals on a consistent basis.

The striker has taken awhile to score goals in the top-flight, but he has been slightly unlucky not to have scored more than six Premier League goals this season.

He works hard for the team and is a talented player. Ings is likely to be a key player for the rest of the season for Sean Dyche’s side.

International

Danny Ings has already earned himself seven caps for the England under-21’s, scoring four times in his international career. His recent performances for the Clarets have raised the possibility of the youngster playing for the senior team in the near future.

Doubts

Danny Ings is out of contract in the summer and there were doubts that the striker would remain at Turf Moor in the January transfer window. However, the striker has insisted that he will stay with the club from Lancashire until the end of the season.

The likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham have all been mooted as potential destinations for the striker. His recent performances have obviously turned heads at some of the country’s biggest clubs.

It looks unlikely that Ings will be signing a new deal with the Clarets, so the best gift he could give the Burnley fans is helping the club beat the odds in surviving the drop, which at the moment does not look like an unrealistic prospect.

The Clarets cannot afford to lose Ings in January, so everybody connected with the club will be breathing a sigh of relief that Ings will be at least staying till the end of the season.

Partnership

Ings forged a superb partnership with Welsh striker Sam Vokes last season, which helped the club achieve promotion to the top-flight. Vokes has only recently returned from injury, but now he is back from injury the striker could again re-ignite that partnership.

However, former-Brighton striker Ashley Barnes has been in good form recently partnering Ings, so Vokes may have awhile to wait to make an impact alongside the former-Bournemouth star. Vokes also seems to have the potential to make an impact in the top-flight.

Battle

Burnley started the season as one of the favourites for relegation this season. Sean Dyche’s side are still favourites to be relegated at odds of 4/5, which after their current spirited run is probably slightly harsh on the Clarets.

Burnley have a very favourable run of fixtures in the next few weeks. Dyche’s side host Crystal Palace at Turf Moor next weekend, before travelling to Sunderland and a home game with West Brom. If the Clarets can pick-up a decent amount of points from the next three games then they will give themselves a very good chance of beating the drop this season.

If Burnley do survive the drop this season then it is very likely that their young striker has played a big part in that survival, because his confidence is growing with every Premier League game he plays.

Unfortunately for Burnley it seems that his form could lead to the Lancashire losing the highly-rated striker for just compensation in the summer. However, if he does leave in the summer and has helped the club survive then I am sure Clarets fans would definitely react more favourably to his exit.

Could Danny Ings be the key to survival for Burnley?
