Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has admitted that his future at the club could be in doubt.
Redknapp’s contract at White Hart Lane expires next summer and the veteran boss could leave Spurs if he isn’t given a new deal.
Calm
The 65 year-old is calm about his future. He told the Daily Mirror: “ I feel I’ve done a good job,”
“If people don’t recognise what you have done or don’t feel that you have done that well I can’t say, ‘Look how good I’ve done, chairman, here I am. It is up to him. It is up to the chairman, basically.
“ I don’t go running to him, asking for a new contract. I don’t worry too much about things like that. Honestly. What will be, will be.”
Outstanding
Harry Redknapp has done an outstanding job at Tottenham. He turned Tottenham from a team struggling in the relegation zone into a team challenging at the top end of the Premier League table. Redknapp has set really good foundations at Tottenham for the club to challenge the top teams.
Harry Redknapp is a superb man-manager and everybody that has played under him only have good words about the veteran boss.
England
He has done such a good job at White Hart Lane that he was being linked with the England job. It seemed almost inevitable that Redknapp would be appointed England boss this summer. When Italian boss Fabio Capello left his position as England boss earlier this year Redknapp was seen as the only possible successor.
However, to the surprise of nearly everybody in the country the English FA decided to appoint the much travelled West Brom boss Roy Hodgson as the new England boss. Redknapp took the decision with good grace, despite his obvious disappointment.
Redknapp was only ever likely to leave his position at Tottenham for one job and that was the England job. Now that Hodgson has been appointed England boss it’s unlikely Redknapp will ever get that opportunity.
Future
Prior to the speculation over the England job Tottenham were in outstanding form. Spurs form hit a rough patch as speculation over Redknapp’s future went into overdrive. It seemed to have a destabilising effect on the Spurs players.
However, Tottenham’s form seems to have picked up again in recent weeks and Redknapp has built a team that could become one of the best in the English top flight. If he would have left Tottenham this summer then his hard work may have been wasted.
The fact that Redknapp will be staying at White Hart Lane will mean that there won’t be the expected mass exodus of players of this summer. The likes of Welsh winger Gareth Bale and midfield playmaker Luka Modric had been linked with moves away from the club.
Important
I don’t think there should be much doubt about whether Harry Redknapp will get a new contract next summer.
Redknapp has been so important in the development of Tottenham as a football club in recent years. Without the veteran boss Tottenham may still be struggling to make an impact on the Premier League.
I’m sure Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy knows how vital Redknapp is to the success of Spurs. Levy is an intelligent guy and he will no doubt be entering discussing with the boss in the summer.
Redknapp has experienced problems off-the-field problems in recent months and years but it doesn’t seem to have diminished his appetite for the game. Harry Redknapp still has a lot to offer Tottenham and I just can’t see him leaving White Hart Lane anytime soon.
