Tottenham Hotspur travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, and are deemed underdogs by the bookmakers to get a result.
However, with Spurs boasting a superior head-to-head record in recent years, while United have managed just one win in the Premier League since September, could Mauricio Pochettino’s men get a result this weekend?
Manchester United’s Premier League form a worry
Manchester United have endured a poor start to the Premier League season, coming off the back of three consecutive draws ahead of Sunday’s clash. The Red Devils are currently sixth in the division with 21 points, one place and six points worse off than Tottenham in the table, and have managed just one win from their last eight games. Jose Mourinho’s side haven’t beaten a club greater than 10th in the league and their home form has been a real problem.
United have managed just two wins at Old Trafford in the Premier League this season, keeping just two clean sheets from seven, scoring only 1.43 goals per game. Southampton and Leicester City are the only two clubs who Mourinho’s side have beaten in the league this campaign, and Manchester United have dropped points at home to the likes of Stoke City, Burnley, Arsenal and West Ham United which will be a real worry.
Matters aren’t helped either with Tottenham boasting recent wins over the Red Devils, and United’s inconsistent form in their own backyard will mean Sunday’s clash could go either way.
Tottenham’s head-to-head record could see a win at Old Trafford
Prior to 2012, Tottenham Hotspur had managed just three wins and eight draws from their 40 Premier League meetings with Manchester United since the division’s inception, but have picked up three wins and three draws from their last head-to-heads ahead of this weekend’s meeting.
Spurs have beaten Manchester United twice at Old Trafford in the league in their last four trips to the city alone, and most recently put three goals past the Red Devils in April when the two sides met at White Hart Lane. Tottenham are coming off the back of two wins from their last three in the league, and may fancy their chances against a United side who have scored one or less goals in seven of their last eight Premier League outings. As a result, Tottenham Hotspur are 12/5 to win against Manchester United in Sunday’s Premier League clash.
