Tottenham star and hero of the North London club’s 3-1 win over Real Madrid this week, Dele Alli, has been heavily linked with a move to the Spanish capital over the past month, but now it has emerged that Manchester United could be set to swoop in and steal Alli right out from under Los Blancos’ noses.
That’s according to the Express, who noticed that the bookmakers BetStars have made the Manchester club the favourites to acquire Alli’s signature. Whether or not that means anything is of course a different question, but it is certainly an intriguing development regarding one of England’s most exciting players.
Tottenham and Manchester United have a turbulent recent history when it comes to transfers, much of which stems from the Dimitar Berbatov drama back in 2008. That particular fiasco damaged relations to the point that Spurs refused to sell Luka Modric to United, meaning the Croatian instead made the switch to Real Madrid.
There are of course interesting parallels that can be drawn between the Modric move and the Alli rumours, and if Jose Mourinho is to stand any chance of signing the Englishman he will certainly have to pay an astronomical figure.
