Defending champions Marseille won through to the Coupe de la Ligue final with a 2-0 triumph over Auxerre on Wednesday.

The reigning Ligue 1 champions went ahead on 45 minutes when Brazilian striker Brandao found the back of the net at Auxerre’s Stade de l’Abbe Deschamps, before Andre-Pierre Gignac made sure of the result with a second goal in the 68th minute.

The cup – comprising of all teams in the top three tiers of French football – will be fought over by Marseille and Montpellier in the final after the latter won their semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday 1-0 in extra-time.

Marseille won last season’s cup final 3-1 over Bordeaux.
