La Liga action will resume this weekend after a court blocked proposed strike action from the Spanish football league.
Six clubs – which include La Liga outfits Sevilla, Villarreal, Athletic Bilbao, Real Sociedad, Real Zaragoza and Espanyol – challenged the Spanish football league’s (LFP) threat to cancel fixtures scheduled for matchday 30 should the government not back down on their rule which stipulates at least one La Liga game is to be shown on free-to-air television per matchday.
The LFP’s argument is that clubs will become more authoritative in bargaining agreements for selling TV rights to games.
The remaining 14 La Liga clubs were willing to strike in protest of the rule that has been in place since 1997.
The league had decided last month that matchday 30 would be scrapped, but the six clubs, known as the G-6, have succeeded in overturning the LFP’s plan to postpone the weekend’s action.
“The court decides the official calendar for the first and second divisions should remain unaltered for the next round of matches,” a court statement read on Wednesday.
