Chelsea shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois explains that he doesn’t expect to get a real chance at Stamford Bridge for at least few more years.
The Belgian keeper joined Chelsea in a €9 million deal from Genk last summer, but was immediately farmed out on loan to Atletico Madrid.
The 19-year-old managed to prove his undoubted potential at Vicente Calderon, where he is now considered a first choice keeper, but the player believes he needs few more loan stints before he is able to compete for a starting place at Stamford Bridge.
“I think I will have to play for another English team for a year or two before I join Chelsea,” Courtois told The People.
“I need to learn about the style of play in England. Once I’ve done that I will see if I am ready to turn out for Chelsea.”
Courtois explains he is satisfied with his performances for los Colchoneros this season.
“I’m quite happy with my performances for Atletico. But given Petr Cech is one of the best keepers in the world, I think I will have to stay put.
“I have time on my side, I’ll carry on working and Chelsea are continuing to follow my progress.”
The talented goalkeeper has been virtually ever present for los Rojiblancos, having started all but one La Liga game this term.
Courtois also featured in 7 Europa League games, helping his side reach the last 16 stage, where they recorded a 3-1 win over Lazio in the first leg at Olimpico.
