Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is eagerly anticipating the UEFA Super Cup clash against his parent club Chelsea on Friday.
The Belgium international joined the Blues from Genk in the summer of 2011, and was immediately farmed out on loan to the Spanish capital.
Courtois impressed in his first campaign at the Vicente Calderon as he helped them to Europa League glory, and his temporary stay at Atletico was consequently extended by another season.
“It’s special for me as the game is against my own club, but I play for Atletico now. It’s me against Chelsea, and I want to win it,” Courtois told UEFA.com.
Even though the glovesman wishes his Chelsea team-mates all the best for Friday’s game, the 20-year-old is determined to bring the trophy back home to Madrid.
“I keep my fingers crossed for them, for all my friends at Chelsea, and my Belgium team-mates who play there now,” he said.
“I wish them the best of luck. But I want to win the Super Cup. I hope it will be a good match, and may the better team win.”
Courtois is one of a number of Belgians under contract at Chelsea, with Eden and Thorgan Hazard, Romelu Lukaku and Kevin De Bruyne all having signed for the Champions League holders as well in recent years.
