Barcelona have actively been pursuing the signatures of striker Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan and Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic, but they haven’t had much luck so far. Given the financial situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, there simply isn’t enough money in the till to satisfy all their needs. The situation is the same with a large number of clubs around Europe, and more swap deals and free transfers are expected this summer than is usually the case, at least for the big ones.
According to AS, Philippe Coutinho could be on his way to Juventus in exchange for Pjanic, after Arthur Melo, the Serie A champions’ first choice, informed the Barcelona directors that he has no intention of leaving the Camp Nou. It is highly unlikely the former Liverpool playmaker is used in the Lautaro deal, with the same source reporting that Inter Milan sporting director Piero Ausilio openly stated that the 22-year-old Argentinian won’t leave the club unless his release clause, reportedly set at €111m, is paid in full.
