Coyle´s Bolton up for the Cup

Bolton boss Owen Coyle was delighted with his side’s progression to the fifth round of the FA Cup on Wednesday.

Croatian striker Ivan Klasnic scored the game’s only goal after 67 minutes at the DW Stadium as Bolton toppled Wigan to book a meeting with Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday.

Coyle was glowing in the praise of his players after the match, insisting they had thoroughly deserved the victory.

“We’ve won a game 1-0 and truth be told we should have scored a few more than one,” Coyle said.

“The positives were there to see and we could have scored more.”

The Wanderers manager indicated he would select a full-strength team for the trip to Fulham, after he made six changes for win over Wigan.

“We go to Fulham and try to win. We’re in the quarter final of the best cup competition in world football,” he said.

“We’re going up against a good side and I’m sure the players we’ve got available will give me all they’ve got. The FA Cup is magical and everything that goes along with it. We’ve all grown up with the FA Cup.”

Coyle also confirmed right-back Sam Ricketts had injured his Achilles and could be sidelined for a few weeks, with scans to confirm the severity of the injury.

The former Burnley manager had no complaints about the pitch, but Wigan boss Roberto Martinez was disappointed with the DW Stadium surface after the match.

Wigan Athletic share the ground with English Super League club Wigan Warriors and Martinez believes the state of the pitch hindered his side’s ability to play at its best.

“As a team we couldn’t adapt to the pitch today but there were good performances out there. Quite clearly we need to relay the pitch so we can play the way we know we can,” Martinez said.

“We’re going to relay the pitch tomorrow, but to be fair to our ground staff they work very hard to get the pitch playable.”

Martinez also bemoaned Wigan’s bad luck, but agreed his side were off the pace on Wednesday.

“It was that type of night where we didn’t get any luck. Jordi Gomez hit the crossbar. Nine times out of ten, (with) the quality of Jordi that hits the back of the net,” he said.

“I wouldn’t say that we played well, but I don’t think Bolton did either, but they adapted better to the pitch and they took their chances and we couldn’t.”
