While disappointed with the end result, Bolton manager Owen Coyle refused to criticise his side’s display in their 1-1 draw with Wigan.

Coyle watched as Bolton threw everything at Wigan in search of a winner in the final stages but was ultimately left annoyed that it never came.

“Wigan paid us the ultimate compliment by setting up and obviously playing on the counter attack and hoping for a mistake,” Coyle told SkySports.

“The first half I thought was quite scrappy if truth be told but in the second there was only one team. They had very few chances in the game.”

“So we’re disappointed not to win the game. The only frustration is in the result not the performance, as in the second half we were terrific.”

“We cut Wigan open on numerous occasions and the goalkeeper had some top class saves and on another day we would have scored four or five goals tonight.”

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez thought his side deserved a point and was delighted with their reaction to going a goal behind.

“I thought it was a fair result,” Martinez said.

“It was a tense game, not many opportunities for either side, then when you go 1-0 down it’s always an uphill task but the manner of our reaction, I thought we stepped up our tempo and we scored a very good goal. From then on it is a really positive result.
