Bolton manager Owen Coyle will look to add to his squad during the January transfer window – but not with the signing of David Beckham.
Bolton had just 15 players available for selection against Liverpool on Saturday and will have a similar number for Wednesday’s clash with Wigan.
“I have always said that if the right player came about then we would have a look at it,” Coyle said.
“You have to look at your team and decide what you need to help what you’ve already got. But I would never rule out the possibility of bringing anyone to the football club.”
“Beckham will not be one our radar. There is no doubt that he has played at the highest level because he has the desire to be the best he can be and that’s one of the things you admire about him.”
“He was a very wealthy man many years ago and he could have switched off and lost that hunger but he has retained it and you can se the passion in his eyes when he talks about football. I believe its Tottenham that are likely to sign him and I am sure if they do they will have a world-class player in their ranks.”
The Scottish manager believes he already has a world-class player in his side and it will take a massive bid to lure him away from The Reebok Stadium.
“There was speculation surrounding Gary Cahill yesterday and I can comfortably tell you that I have had no dialogue with anybody about Gary or any other player leaving the club and long may that continue, because we have got to keep the group together and possibly add one or two to help the group we have,” Coyle said.
“I don’t fear bids for Gary or anyone, because they have been playing so well it could happen, because they are top players. But I have always said players like Cahill, when they move for 20 million or 30 million pounds, should move in the summer so they can get a proper pre-season done with the group.”
Under Coyle’s guidance Bolton are competing for a place in next season’s Europa League, but he believes they should be even better placed in the division.
“If you wanted to sit down I could probably show you a video with 16 decisions that have not gone our way, things that have cost us goals and penalties we should have had,” he said.
“We should have had a penalty at Anfield. People say it evens itself out and if that the case then we are due some huge decisions in the second half of the season.”
Coyle’s squad will be bolstered by the return of defender Paul Robinson, who missed the Liverpool encounter through suspension. Andy O’Brien appears to have played his last game for the club, with a move to Championship outfit Leeds almost finalised.
