Crawley Town after biggest scalp of all

Crawley Town manager Steve Evans is planning to do what no one else has managed this season – beat Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Ninety-two places separate Crawley – in England’s fifth tier of football – from the English Premier League leaders and 11-time cup winners United ahead of their FA Cup fifth-round encounter.

The non-league club have already knocked out three teams from higher divisions to reach this stage of the tournament for the first time ever.

And despite United being strong favourites to advance in a canter, Crawley boss Steve Evans is facing the challenge head-on.

“We’ll do what we’ve done in every game – we’ll pick the team that we think is best placed to get a result at Old Trafford,” he said.

“As airy fairy as that sounds, that’s what we’ve got to try and do. In our team there might just be one or two in there that people will be surprised at but you pick the team to try and get the result.”

‘Torres’ has been a prevalent name in English football in recent times, and there will be one in Town midfielder Sergio Torres on the pitch on Saturday attempting to help create a football fairytale.

Argentinian Torres said he hoped Sir Alex Ferguson would name his best side to face the minnow club.

“Well it would be (a shame if Ferguson rested players) because we want to play against the biggest stars,” Torres said.

“They are world class players, they all play for their national teams even if they’re in the reserves. It’s going to be a real hard game but we are looking forward to it.”
