Columbus Crew managed to grab a place in the MLS Cup semifinals, following their 2-0 win over the Kansas City Wizards on Saturday night.
Brad Evans and Robbie Rogers scored the goals for the Crew.
The first leg between the two ended in a 1-1 tie, something that gives the Crew a 3-1 aggregate victory.
“It’s been a long time since the Crew won a playoff game so that was good,” Columbus Crew head coach Sigi Schmid said.
“If Kansas City had won the first game they probably would have played differently.
“I take my hat off to Kansas City. They went after us. They were sharp, aggressive. They made it difficult for us to play but we scored two timely goals and were able to exploit the space behind the defense.
“It always helps when you score early. It makes it a little easier. I know people like to say the worst lead in soccer is 2-0. I’d rather be ahead 2-0 than behind 2-0. We’ve been a very tough team when we jumped onto the lead. That’s something we talked about before the game. We wanted to play to zero and we wanted to get the first goal.”
