Competition: League One
Market: Crewe win
Odds: 3/4 @ 888sport
Looking to find a route back into the play-off spots this weekend, Crewe will welcome AFC Wimbledon to an empty Alexandra Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Starting with the hosts, while Crewe might have been disappointed to have played out three draws on the bounce either side of their enforced break, the Railwaymen managed to make a return to winning ways earlier in the week. Eventually picking up what was an action-packed 3-2 win against Bristol Rovers, the Reds know that three points this weekend would see them break into the play-off positions. Appearing to have found a clinical edge in the final third, Head Coach David Artell will also be boosted by his side’s continued success on home soil. Including that 3-2 win against the Pirates in midweek, Crewe have collected a staggering 16 points from their last eight League One contests at Alexandra Stadium. Also landing a 2-1 win against Saturday’s guests when they faced off last month, the Railwaymen should be confident of extending on their recent purple patch this week.
As for the visitors, while Crewe might have a golden chance to break into the play-off positions, AFC Wimbledon find themselves in the midst of a real worrying spell. Although the Wombles might have picked up a much-needed boost thanks to a 1-0 win against Bristol Rovers on EFL Trophy duties earlier in the month, they have come crashing back down to earth. Putting in another hugely concerning performance earlier in the week, Glyn Hodges’ men were hit with a 4-0 drumming against Portsmouth on the road. Dropping back into the relegation zone, it should also be noted that Wimbledon have lost each of their last five League One contests on the spin. Without a win to their name in England’s third-tier since back on December 2nd, Saturday’s guests should face a stern test on the road this weekend.
