Cris inks Galatasaray deal

Brazilian defender Cris has joined Galatasaray on a free transfer from Lyon, he Turkish club have announced.

The veteran defender had expressed his desire to stay and fight for his place at Gerland, but the French club were eager to get rid of the 35-year-old after signing Milan Bisevac from Paris Saint-Germain.

The French club revealed on their official website that they had agreed to cancel the player’s contract so that he could sign for Galatasaray as a free agent.

The Brazilian centre-back has signed a one-year deal with the Turkish giants that will be automatically extended for another season if he features in at least 25 games.

Cris decided to leave Lyon after spending eight very successful seasons at Gerland, during which he has won four league titles with les Gones.

In total, the Brazilian has scored 20 goals in 225 Ligue 1 appearances for the French giants.
