Zenit full-back Domenico Criscito will not be returning to Italian Serie A, according to the player’s official representative.
The 26-year-old has been linked with a return to Italy’s elite division following a difficult start to his career in Russia, with a number of top flight clubs believed to be keen.
However, even if the player wouldn’t mind leaving his current employers, his representative doesn’t believe Italian clubs can match Criscito’s salary.
“The player earns very well with Zenit,” agent Andrea D’Amico told RAI. “Right now Italian football is in great difficulty, it would be hard for him to return to his homeland.”
Domenico Criscito began his career at Genoa and also enjoyed a short spell with Juventus before returning to Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
Having made a total of 152 Serie A appearances for the Gialloblu, the full-back joined Zenit in the summer of 2011.
He has since featured in just 45 league matches for the Russian giants, with numerous injuries seriously hindering his career.
Criscito has earned 21 Italy caps and last featured for the Azzurri in the November friendly against Germany.
