Atletico Madrid winger Cristian Rodriguez has joined Gremio on a short-term loan, the Brazilian club announced on their official website.
The Uruguay international signed for Parma on loan until the end of the season less than two months ago, but decided to cut his stint short due to club’s financial problems.
Gremio took advantage of the situation by agreeing a loan deal with Atletico Madrid and they are expected to try and sign the winger on permanent deal in June.
Rodriguez will wear number 7 at Arena do Gremio and he will be officially unveiled at a press conference later today.
The Brazilian club hope Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez will allow the highly rated footballer to miss the upcoming friendly against Morocco so that he can help the new club in matches against Lajeadense, Novo Hamburgo and Sao Paulo Rio Grande.
Rodriguez returns to South America after an 11-year absence having left Penarol back in 2005.
