According to multiple sources, Manchester United’s pursuit of Chelsea’s Mason Mount appears to have reached a critical moment, with the 20-time English champions refusing to get drawn into a long saga. Having seen two offers rejected so far, the second one worth up to £50 million, they could move on to alternative targets if the matter isn’t resolved soon.
Chelsea initially wanted £70 million to let Mount go, but now Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano believes a bid of £60-65m could be enough to get the green light from Stamford Bridge. And yet, United are still to offer such an amount, despite the personal terms being already agreed with the 24-year-old England international. Romano also says his sources believe the deal must be done by the end of next week, or not at all.
Mount was previously looked at by United’s arch-rivals Liverpool, but as he indicated his preference to move to Old Trafford rather than Anfield, the Merseysiders moved on and secured the signature of World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and Hove Albion.
