DC United manager Ben Olsen has confirmed the club’s interest in Everton’s Wayne Rooney, according to Sky Sports.
Olsen said there was some interest from the club’s end, but he insists the deal has not been completed yet.
Having started his career at Everton, Rooney moved to Manchester United in 2004 and spent 13 years there before returning to Goodison last summer. Reports have emerged about a rift between him and Sam Allardyce, which the Everton manager denied.
But links with a move to D.C. United have now been confirmed, and the 32-year-old looks set to become the latest big-name player to move to the MLS at the twilight of his career, following the likes of David Beckham, Thierry Henry, Robbie Keane, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Zlatan Ibrahimović.
The deal hasn’t been signed yet, but Sky Sports claim it would take a significant change of heart by either Rooney or his family for it not to happen.
