Dalglish continues defence of Suarez

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish remains convinced Luis Suarez did nothing wrong in the incident that led to him being given an eight-match ban.

Dalglish continues to defend his Uruguayan striker, who was punished by the English FA for racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra.

The club has decided not to appeal the sentence, but Dalglish struggled to disguise his disappointment at how the investigation was handled.

“There’s a lot of things we’d like to say and there’s a lot of things we could say, but we’d only get ourselves in trouble,” Dalglish said.

“We are not trying to be evasive, well we are being evasive because we don’t want to get ourselves in trouble.”

“We know what has gone on and we know what is not in the report and that is important for us. So without me getting myself in trouble, I think that is it finished.”

Suarez released a statement claiming the word ‘negro’ is a commonly used term in Uruguay, and said he intended no malice towards the Frenchman with his choice of words, sentiments backed up by Dalglish.

“I think if you ask a linguistic expert, which I’m certainly not, they’ll tell you that the part of Uruguay that he comes from, it is perfectly acceptable,” the Scot said.

“His wife calls him that and I don’t think he’s fallen out with her. We’ve made a statement and the statement is there for everyone to read and Luis has made a brilliant statement and we’ll stand by him.”
