Dalglish proud of Liverpool spirit

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has praised his side’s character ahead of their clash with Premier League leaders Manchester City on Sunday.

The Reds go into the game on the back of a dramatic win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and Dalglish believes his team are happy despite 75 million pounds worth of players in Andy Carroll, Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson starting the game from the bench.

“At the end of the day it is hard for those who don’t play. It is hard to keep them motivated and keep them going. That is understandable,” Dalglish said.

“If they come in with really good attitudes and not with petty lips when they are left out, it is helpful to everyone.”

“For them to have come in with positive attitudes has shown their determination. It hasn’t done anyone any harm.”

“If they are not committed to playing, it is not going to be my problem, it is going to be their problem because we will go and get people who are determined to play.”

“Did you see Stewart Downing’s face when Glen Johnson scored? Print that picture rather than use any words from me to describe how he felt. It says more than I could ever say.”

Liverpool now look to take on the Citizens at Anfield on Sunday and Dalglish has insisted that complaining about their opponent’s wealth will not help them overcome Roberto Mancini’s side.

Dalglish was in charge of Blackburn Rovers in the mid-90s when they employed similar transfer tactics and the Scot believes any club would prefer to be in City’s position.

“If you’re a football club in the fortunate position Manchester City are in, everyone is going to be delighted,” he said.

“They are exactly the same. They are in a position where they can compete financially for any player in the world, whether it’s wages or transfer fee.”

“You tell me a fan who wouldn’t like their club to be doing that.”

“It may make the transfer market skewed, but hasn’t that always been the case? It’s always been harder for some than for others.”

“Nobody wouldn’t want the financial strength they have got. We have to accept that, not worry about it.”
