FC Dallas shocked David Beckham’s Los Angeles Galaxy 3-0 to reach Major League Soccer’s championship match.
Colombian midfielder David Ferreira scored one goal and created another for Dallas as they on Sunday won the MLS Western Conference final to reach the MLS Cup.
They will take on the Colorado Rapids on November 21 in Toronto. The Rapids beat San Jose 1-0 on Saturday.
George John and Marvin Chavez also scored and goalkeeper Kevin Hartman, formerly with the Galaxy, made six saves for Dallas.
Ferreira gave Dallas a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute, collecting a pass from Chavez at the top of the penalty area, making a full turn and firing inside the left post.
It was the only shot on goal by Dallas in the first half while the Galaxy, urged on by their home fans, threatened often.
Before Ferreira’s goal, the Galaxy had three chances to take the lead, but Hartman denied them all.
In the eighth minute, Hartman dived left to deflect Mike Magee’s 30-yard shot with his left hand.
Hartman blocked Juninho’s 15-yard blistering drive in the 21st minute, then two minutes later he leapt to tip Beckham’s bouncing 50-yard free kick away from the upper right corner.
Hartman kept Landon Donovan from equalising in the 31st minute by diving to his left to deflect the unmarked Donovan’s 31-yard shot with both hands.
John doubled the score in the 54th minute, converting Brek Shea’s cross from the left from three yards out.
Honduran international Chavez made it 3-0 in the 73rd. Ferreira threaded a pass through the defense to an unmarked Chavez, who slotted the ball home.
With the victory Dallas became the last of the original MLS teams still in existence to advance to the championship match.
