West Brom suffered a 3-0 defeat at reigning Premier League champions Chelsea on Monday night. The result means that the Baggies are now rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table, seven points from safety.

To add to the Midlander’s recent woes, marquee January signing Daniel Sturridge limped off after just three minutes of Monday’s game at Stamford Bridge. The injury just summed up the Baggies woeful luck and season so far.

West Brom needs Daniel Sturridge

West Brom are in desperate need of a fully-fit Sturridge. However, boss Alan Pardew has confirmed the striker has a hamstring injury and could be out for two weeks. Imagine that eh, Daniel Sturridge picking up an injury. He just cannot seem to stay on the pitch long enough to get near the goal, let alone find the net.

The England international was signed to help the Baggies score more goals. Only fellow strugglers Swansea City have scored fewer goals than Pardew’s side in the Premier League this season.

When the Baggies signed Sturridge, they knew it was a gamble. On one hand, the Midlands side were signing a striker who has a proven track record of scoring goals. However, on the other hand, the 28-year-old simply cannot seem to stay clear of injuries.

No doubt, a fully fit Sturridge would help the Baggies score more goals. At the minute, though, he is of no use to the Baggies in the treatment room. Hopefully, that is just a short-term issue.

Baggies simply cannot win league games

A team that concedes goals and struggles to score at the other end are always going to be in a relegation battle. The fact that the Baggies have won just one of their last 25 Premier League games is a major factor in their position in the table.

Pardew’s side just cannot win games in the top-flight, despite a recent victory at Liverpool in the FA Cup. Pardew himself stated that he was attempting to make the side from the Midlands more attacking.

Most fans are still waiting for the major transformation. In short, Baggies will be doomed to life in the second tier if they do not start winning Premier League games in the near future.

The Baggies have won just three of their 27 Premier League games this season. Alan Pardew has failed to bring around any improvement in the team’s results. When he arrived at the club, they at least had a chance of staying up. Now that chance seems to be fading fast.

Favourites to suffer relegation this season

It is quite understandable that West Brom are 2/5 favourites to suffer relegation this season considering their recent form. For me, the appointment of Alan Pardew was always a gamble.

The former Newcastle boss is just another mediocre British boss, who has struggled to achieve much in his managerial career. The Baggies believed that they had made a safe choice of boss in the experienced Pardew. Unfortunately, for the team from the Midlands, it now seems like a less than inspired decision to hire Pardew.

Alan Pardew cannot take all the blame for the Baggies current predicament. However, his appointment has only made the situation worse for the club from the Midlands.

It would be a major surprise if the controversial boss now keeps the Baggies in the English top-flight. One thing is for sure, he needs to have Daniel Sturridge fit as soon as possible or the team could continue to struggle for goals for the rest of the league campaign.

Can West Brom save themselves from relegation this season?
