Palmeiras successfully defended their Brazilian Serie A lead with a 2-1 victory over Atletico Paranaense on Saturday.

Chilean Luis Figueroa put the league leaders in the lead with two minutes left in the first half, but an own goal from the unfortunate Danilo leveled the score three minutes after the hour.

Danilo went from villain to hero however, as it was he who would also score the winning goal seven minutes after hitting his own target.

Second-placed Sao Paulo host Corinthians on Sunday and face the task of restoring the original three-point gap with the leaders.
