Darren Huckerby, a former Manchester City forward (2000-03), has hailed City’s top three strikers as “world-class”, but also added that Arsenal talisman Robin van Persie is better than the likes of Aguero, Dzeko, and Balotelli.
Understandably so, Huckerby had no problem calling Van Persie the best striker in the Premier League.
“Arsenal are at the top of their game at the moment and in Robin van Persie they have probably got the best striker in the league,” Huckerby told Goal.com.
“At this present time Van Persie would get into every single team in the Premier League as their first-choice striker.
“What makes him so special is that his movement is very good and there is no doubt about it, he really is clinical. I know he plays for a team that creates chances but he virtually scores in every game.
“If Man City do manage to keep him quiet there is a good chance that they will win the game. He is Arsenal at the moment. I wouldn’t say they are a one-man team but they are not far off that now because Van Persie is playing incredibly well and leading by example on the field as the captain.”
And keep him quiet City did. Van Persie looked human on Sunday and unfortunately for the Gunners, there was no moment of brilliance from the Dutch striker.
In other news, FC Barcelona secured yet another trophy under Pep Guardiola with a win in the 2011 Club World Cup final versus Santos.
Guardiola was delighted with his team’s performance and rightfully so.
To be honest, the Catalans looked rather immortal in Yokohama on Sunday. Unbeatable if you will.
“The first half was excellent. We played like great artists. My players could do what they envisioned, and the result showed it. Leo [Messi] was perfect,” Guardiola told reporters.
“Still we must improve and get even better. We return to Catalunya and we’ll try to win more. Right now all we are focusing upon are the next titles. I am very happy to coach these guys and I am honoured to coach these great players.
“We are confident for the future. It will be a surprise for me if my team now give up. They want to keep going, move on forward. We want to continue to play good football and want to show we are top level.”
Can anyone beat Barcelona this season?
It can be done, but only with a bit of luck and a bunch of class.
