David Beckham shouldn’t be surprised at being in-demand

Apparently former-England star David Beckham is ‘amazed’ by the numbers of clubs willing to sign him in November when his LA Galaxy contract expires.

Its not surprising that Beckham is in such demand he is one of the worlds most high profile footballers.

Amazed

Beckham told the Daily Telegraph: “I have had a lot of offers and I must say that I’m amazed that, at my age, I have had so many. Its been a bit of a surprise,”

“ I have to see how my body feels once the play-offs are over, but I love it here and there is a real chance I will stay, especially if my family are happy.”

Offers

Beckham is in-demand in England and elsewhere. One of the most concrete offers seems that of French Ligue One club PSG. The clubs new Qatari owners would love to have a player of Beckham’s stature at the club, even if it just raises the profile of the capital club. Beckham also has a good relationship with PSG sporting director Leonardo from his days on-loan at AC Milan.

Beckham is also reportedly being chased by Premier League Tottenham. The 36 year-old trained with Spurs last November and was due to sign a loan deal but the move failed to materialise. Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is still a big fan of the former-Manchester United ace though.

Ambitious Championship club Leicester City believe they have a chance of landing the midfielder. Beckham played under Foxes boss Sven Goran Eriksson when the Swede was England boss. However I think its unlikely that he will join the Championship side. Leicester are currently midtable in the English tier.

Olympics

Beckham’s next aim is to play at next years Olympics in London. Beckham continued: “What will actually happen next I still can’t say, but what is very important in the decision in terms of what I do, be it staying here, or going to PSG or wherever, is that I get enough time on the pitch because I want to be part of the Olympics,”

“The fact that we’ve got the Olympics in the east end of London where I grew up, the fact that I could be part of that and that I could be out there trying to win gold would mean a hell of a lot to me because I am very patriotic.

“So whoever I sign for, to make sure I would be ready to make that attempt, I would have to be playing regularly.”

I don’t believe he would get regular first team football at Tottenham, so I believe that would rule him out of a move to Spurs. He would continue to get first team football in LA but the MLS schedule isn’t ideal for him to be playing in the Olympics in the summer.

A move to PSG seems an interesting one, I’m sure Mrs Beckham wouldn’t mind a stint in the French capital for a year or so. Whether he would get first football at PSG is another matter though with PSG spending big.

Decent

Apart from the media attention he brings to the clubs he plays for he still has something to offer on the pitch as well. His game never really relied on pace so his advancing years won’t hinder him as much as some players.

David Beckham still has a fantastic football brain. His passing, vision and crossing would give any team an extra attacking edge. And even at 36 he is still in superb physical condition (I sound like his agent!).

Deserving

I hope David Beckham manages to make the Olympics because he deserves to be there. I don’t think David Beckham is the best player England have ever had but he is passionate about his country and has always given his all in a Three Lions shirt.

To play at the Olympics would just add another achievement to his massive list. Unfortunately he never won a trophy with England but maybe he could make up for that slightly by winning a gold medal with team GB next year.

Where does David Beckham’s future lie?

I watch him week in and week out in the MLS. There is no way he should leave the league. He can’t even keep up with the pace of the MLS; he’d fail any where else. Nevertheless he should be in England’s Olympic team, with maybe Roo as well? haha! Roo would at least play instead of at the Euros
