David Beckham is on the verge of confirming his return to AC Milan for next January, a move which should secure his place in Fabio Capello’s World Cup squad for South Africa.

Final details are being put in place and only in the unlikely event that a last-minute hitch is encountered would Beckham consider a return to the Premier League, where Tottenham are the club he is most likely to join.

AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliano is confident of replicating last year’s move, which saw Beckham playing at Milan from January until May. Milan’s likely presence in the latter stages of the Champions League will give Beckham a chance to bid farewell to European club football at the top level.
