David Marshall is set to join Derby County from Wigan Athletic in the summer transfer window, according to The Scottish Sun. It has been reported that Wigan – who will play in League One next season after getting relegated from the Championship and are also under administration at the moment – will receive a small sum transfer fee and will get the 35-year-old goalkeeper’s £12,000-a-week salary off their books.
Marshall will reportedly join Derby as their first-choice goalkeeper and go straight into the starting lineup. The Rams missed out on the Championship playoffs this past season and will be determined to finish in the top six in 2020-21.
West Bromwich Albion also wanted to sign the former Celtic and Norwich City goalkeeper. The Baggies will play in the Premier League next season after winning automatic promotion from the Championship. However, West Brom saw the Scotland international as a second-choice goalkeeper, and the chance to play regularly for Derby swayed Marshall.
