David Moyes denies that he is leaving Everton this summer

Everton boss David Moyes has denied rumours linking with him with a move away from Everton.

The Scot has been in charge at Goodison Park for ten years but has failed to win silverware with the club.

Fantastic

Despite not winning silverware David Moyes has done a fantastic job on Merseyside just keeping Everton competitive.

The Scot has hardly been given major resources to do his job at Everton, but has achieved top seven finishes in the Premier League more often than not.

In fact most of the clubs in the middle of the Premier League table have spent a far larger amount than the Merseyside blues.

Everton’s local-rivals Liverpool for example have spent more than £100million on new recruits in the last 18 months compared to the £6million Everton have spent and the picture becomes very clear. David Moyes has kept Everton punching above their financial weight in his tenure.

Transfers

Everton’s season was transformed in the January transfer window. The Blues were struggling for form until key arrivals. Everton sold Russian midfielder Diniyar Bilyaletdinov to Spartak Moscow for an undisclosed fee.

That transfer allowed David Moyes to bring some much needed new faces to Goodison Park. All three players that were signed in January have proved a success. Darron Gibson arrived from Manchester United for an initial fee of £500,000.

He has looked a bargain already, another stroke of genius in the transfer market from the Everton boss. However, the two players that have made the biggest impact on Everton’s season so far are striker Nikica Jelavic and midfielder Steven Pienaar.

Jelavic arrived from Scottish giants Rangers for a fee in the region of £5.5million and Pienaar returned to Goodison on-loan from Tottenham. The pair has almost transformed the team.

Jelavic has scored ten goals in 13 appearances for the Toffees since his arrival at the club and looks like a bargain in these modern days of extortionate fees. Pienaar has made such a big impact since his return that Everton are now desperate to make his stay at Goodison Park a permanent one.

Talks

When asked if he was set to walk away from Everton this summer he told Sky Sports: “ No. That is not my plan and it is not in my thoughts.

“I will have a chat with the chairman (Bill Kenwright) at the end of the season and we will see where things go. It will just be a chat generally to see where we are. Nowadays it is a much harder job and there is a level of pressure at every club. It takes a lot of your time up.

“ I have always enjoyed my work. Maybe some day I will come to that point but I don’t think I’m there yet.

Relief

This news will come as a relief to most right minded Everton fans. After the FA Cup semi-final defeat to arch-rivals Liverpool David Moyes seemed like a man with the world on his shoulders. The fact that he hasn’t yet won silverware really irks the former-Celtic defender.

Linked

Moyes has been linked with a move to Tottenham, with Spurs boss Harry Redknapp expected to take the reigns of England. Moyes would definitely have bigger resources at his disposal in North London.

However you get the feeling that David Moyes still thinks that he can achieve something special with Everton. The signing and form of striker Nikica Jelavic seems to have re-ignited his enthusiasm for his job.

The Toffee’s have been missing a prolific goal scorer in recent seasons and it looks like they have finally found one in the big Croatian. There is a lot of promise in the Everton squad and Moyes knows it. Jelavic is seen as a player to build a team around and it seems to excite the Scot.

Summer

David Moyes is an ambitious boss and whether he can guide Everton to success next season will heavily depend on which players he can bring in this summer. With a few more signings maybe David Moyes can finally get what he deserves next season, some silverware to show for his good work.
