Davies: Football ´irrelevant´ just now

Bolton captain Kevin Davies has dismissed talk of their future in the FA Cup as ‘irrelevant’ as the club continues to monitor Fabrice Muamba’s health.

The 23-year-old midfielder remains in a critical condition in a London hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest during Bolton’s FA Cup quarter-final with Spurs at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

The match was later abandoned, and there had been reports Bolton could pull out of the competition as players continue to deal with their emotions after Muamba’s collapse.

Davies told the BBC the players were simply anxious for some good news on their team-mate’s health.

“We’ve been asked that question and I think it’s all still irrelevant,” Davies said.

“Until we get more information about Fabrice’s condition, I don’t think anything really matters.”

“I know they were keen to get the game off tomorrow night (a league match against Aston Villa), which is a no-brainer. From then on, we don’t really know as players.”

“It’s all about Fabrice and his family really. The football side just doesn’t come into our thoughts.”

Bolton manager Owen Coyle said Muamba’s family were grateful for the outpouring of support from the football community.

“They are so thankful and they want to put that on record,” Coyle said.

“They have been inundated, as we all have, from the football community globally, family and friends.”

“People have taken a genuine interest and shown a real concern for Fabrice. We hope that will help in this brave fight that he is undergoing at the moment.”

“The support from every manager in the Premier League, throughout the Football League and from my time in Scotland – everyone has been passing on their well wishes and it’s so humbling to have that level of support.”
