Ajax manager Frank de Boer has admitted he would not prevent Christian Eriksen from leaving the club should he want to move to Liverpool.
Eriksen, whose contract expires at the end of the 2013-14 season, has been heavily linked with a switch to Anfield, with Brendan Rodgers eager to bolster his squad ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
The Denmark international has been instrumental in Ajax’s recent domestic success, helping them to three consecutive Eredivisie titles, but De Boer has accepted that the attacking midfielder is likely to leave the Amsterdam Arena in the close-season.
“It is up to Christian what he wants,” the Dutchman said.
“If he feels good going to Liverpool, then it is up to him.
“I would want nothing more than having him with us for a few more years.
“But we realise the interest in this kind of player is huge. And I can also understand that he wants to make another step in his career. I can’t stop him.”
Eriksen, 21, made 43 appearances for Ajax last season, scoring 13 goals.
