Atletico Madrid goalkeeper David De Gea insists he is happy at the club and does not regret his decision to stay last summer.
De Gea has been linked with clubs around Europe, including Manchester United and Wigan.
“It was difficult summer, but in the end I am now playing. That is possible with perseverance, working and struggling through training from the beginning,” he told AS.
“No doubt the decision to stay at Atletico was the most accurate at the time, although it is true that I was about to leave after having a very difficult summer.
“I think the crowd has been unfair to Asenjo. It is never pleasant hear whistles at a team-mate. But, I have to thank the fans for the support they have given me.
“He is a young goalkeeper, like me, and we are fighting for one spot. But it’s a nice fight and a sporting one. We learn a lot from each other.”
