There is now little doubt of the fact that goalkeeper David De Gea is by far and away the best player on Premier League giants Manchester United’s books, and his remarkable shot stopping talent has turned the Red Devils into the best defensive side in the top flight.
It wasn’t surprising to first hear of the rumours linking the Spanish international with Real Madrid, which have only grown over the past few weeks. What is surprising however is the news this week that De Gea is set to snub Los Blancos and sign a new £220,000-a-week deal at United, according to the Star.
De Gea has kept 15 clean sheets in the Premier League this season, which is a league high, but he has also made the joint second most saves, which suggests that he is heavily involved in Manchester United’s defensive success. Keeping the shot stopper around will be quite the coup for United, especially as he is now widely considered to be the world’s best.
