Manchester United have closed in on signing goalkeeper David de Gea, with the 20-year-old undergoing a medical at Old Trafford on Monday.
The Atletico Madrid shot-stopper has long been linked to succeed Edwin van der Sar in goal, after the latter played his final game in a red shirt in United’s Champions League final loss to Barcelona in May.
De Gea, of Spain, was on national duty at the weekend, as he helped the Spanish under-21 side win the European Championships.
Should de Gea make official his move to Manchester, he will become the third major signing made by Ferguson so far this off-season, in addition to former Blackburn defender Phil Jones and England international Ashley Young.
